Beginning Readers

At this level the students are beginning to notice familiar words within a simple text.  Often times, they look for CVC words, sight words, or chunk words that they have been practicing.

Students at this level:

  • Track Print Left to Right.

  • Points to each Word.

  • Use Initial Sounds.

  • Looks at Picture for Clues.

  • Starts Building Sight Word Bank

  • ​Use Background Knowledge.

  • Makes Connections (Text to Self)

  • States Opinion

At this level the students are becoming more confident in their reading.  With guidance, they have the ability to transition from pointing to each word to reading with their eyes.
